A win for the Indomitable Lions over the Walya Antelopes will be enough to send them through to the next phase of the competition
The Africa Cup of Nations matchday 2 kick’s off on Thursday with the hosts Cameroon set to play Ethiopia at Omnisport Stadium in Yaounde.
The Indomitable Lions will be the first team in the ongoing edition to seal their place in the knockout phase with victory over the Eastern Africans.
Cameroon claimed a 2-1 win in their initial Group A assignment over Burkina Faso with the Walya Antelopes falling by a solitary goal to Cape Verde.
With the quality of the squad and the fans supporting them fully, the hosts come into the match as favourites, but they will have to show it on the pitch against Ethiopia who are desperate to avoid another loss.
Striker Vincent Aboubakar will be coming into the match full of confidence after scoring a brace in the opening game against the Stallions. It was his third goal for the national team in the last two matches.
Hamburg striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is expected to be involved on Thursday after fully recovering from a knock. He was benched in the victory over Burkina Faso but the 32-year-old might partner Aboubakar in a predicted 4-4-2 formation.
Cameroon lead Group A after their victory over Burkina Faso, while Cape Verde, who will be playing the Stallions, are in second position with three points after their win over Ethiopia. The Walya Antelopes are third.
The two teams have met twice initially with the Indomitable Lions winning once and the other encounter, which was in the 2016 African Nations Championship, ended in a stalemate.
