Ghana have been eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations after a shock 3-2 defeat to Comoros in their final Group C game on Tuesday.
Comoros got off to a dream start breaking the deadlock after just four minutes of play.
El Fardou Ben scored with a powerful shot into the bottom right corner after catching the Black Stars defense cold on the break.
The Ghanaians recovered well from the shock of conceding and began to assert themselves on their opponent.
But the match took a dramatic twist in the 26th minute when Andre Ayew was shown a controversial red card following a tackle on the goalkeeper.
The Black Stars skipper was adjudged to have made a dangerous challenge after VAR review and was given his marching orders.
It was a tall order from then on as Milovan Rajevac’s side struggled to deal with their opponents threat especially on the counter attack.
The first half ended with a 1-0 scoreline in favor of the debutants.
After the recess, Ghana continued to press for the equalizer which left them vulnerable at the back.
Comoros again capitalized on the spaces to extend their lead against the run of play.
Ahmed Mogni found the back of the net on the hour mark with a strike from the edge of the penalty box, with the ball finding the bottom right corner of the goal.
However, the Black Stars got themselves back in the game courtesy of substitute Richmond Boakye Yiadom header few minutes later.
Ghana got a deserved equalizer in the 77th minute through Alexander Djiku and looked well on course to win the game from then on.
But Comoros struck again late in the game when Benjaloud Youssouf put the ball on a plate for Ahmed Mogn, who scored with a simple close-range finish to secure a remarkable 3-2 win.
The result means that Ghana have been eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations. They last failed to advance past the AFCON group stage in 2006.
And Comoros may still well qualify to the next round as one of the best third place teams depending on the results from other groups.
