AFCON 2023: Morocco Cruises Past Tanzania as DR Congo and Zambia Share Spoils

The Atlas Lions of Morocco roared to a dominant 3-0 victory over Tanzania in their opening 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash on Wednesday, solidifying their position as tournament favourites.

Romain Saïss opened the scoring in the 30th minute, setting the stage for a dominant display by the Atlas Lions. The game took a further turn in Morocco’s favour when Novatus Miroshi received a second yellow card, reducing Tanzania to ten men in the 70th minute.

Morocco capitalized on the numerical advantage, adding two more goals in quick succession. Azzedine Ounahi and Youssef En-Nesyri struck in the 77th and 80th minutes respectively, sealing the win and extending Morocco’s unbeaten streak against Tanzania at the AFCON to three games.

The other Group F encounter saw DR Congo and Zambia split the spoils with a 1-1 draw. Kings Kangwa gave Zambia the lead in the 23rd minute, but Yoane Wissa’s swift response four minutes later ensured a point for DR Congo.

Both teams will be looking to build on this point when they face their respective opponents in the next round.
