Former Black Stars striker Prince Tagoe has said AS Roma forward Afena Gyan has similar qualities as Ghana’s all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan.
Afena Gyan made his debut for the Black Stars on Friday against Nigeria in the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and he impressed many including Prince Tagoe.
According to Tagoe, Ghana went to the last AFCON without a striker and the presence of Afena Gyan did the team a lot of good upfront.
“Afena Gyan’s movement and pace upfront show that he is a proper striker. We didn’t take a striker to the last AFCON and it was a problem. But Afena is a proper striker just like me and Asamoah Gyan” he said in an interview with Connect 97.1 FM.
Despite Ghana failing to win at home, Prince Tagoe is of full confidence that Ghana will still qualify for the World Cup in Qatar with the away goal rule favouring them.
“Looking at how they drew with us, nothing shows that we wouldn’t be able to beat them in the return leg. We now have an advantage because of the away goal rule. We only need to score a goal there,” he added.
The return leg will be played at the M.K.O Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday.
