African Games: Black Princesses Progress to Semi-finals Despite Draw with Uganda

The Black Princesses of Ghana secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Uganda in their final group A match of the ongoing 2023 African Games Women’s Football Tournament at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Friday night.

Catherine Nagadya opened the scoring for Uganda early on, finding the net in the 10th minute. However, the Black Princesses refused to be deterred. Mukarama Abdulai equalized for Ghana in the 36th minute, ensuring a share of the spoils.

Despite the draw, Ghana finished the group stage undefeated with 7 points, securing their place in the semi-finals. Uganda, with 5 points, also progressed as runners-up.

In the other Group A match played simultaneously at the Elmina Sports Stadium, Ethiopia and Tanzania drew 1-1.  Both teams saw their African Games journey end, finishing third and fourth in the group with two and one point respectively.

The Black Princesses will now set their sights on the semi-finals, where they will face Senegal on March 18. Meanwhile, Uganda will battle Nigeria on the same day.
