Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku celebrated Fenerbahce’s progression to the Europa Conference League quarterfinals despite a 1-0 defeat to Union St. Gilloise in the second leg on Thursday night.

Fenerbahçe secured a comfortable aggregate victory (3-1) thanks to their dominant 3-0 win in the first leg. Although Mathias Rasmussen scored for Union St. Gilloise, it wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit.

Djiku took to Twitter to express his gratitude to the fans, writing “Quarter Final Here We Go. Thank you for your support”.  His impressive performance throughout the match earned him the highest player rating of 8.1 from Sofascore.

Alexander Djiku, who joined Fenerbahçe from Strasbourg in the summer of 2023, has been a key figure for the Turkish club this season. He has featured in 28 matches across all competitions, contributing a goal and 2 assists.

The Europa Conference League quarter-final draw will be held today, March 15, revealing Fenerbahçe’s next opponent.  However, their focus will quickly shift to domestic matters as they face Trabzonspor in the Turkish Süper Lig on March 17.
