Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has urged Black Stars coach Otto. Addo to maintain the majority of the current squad for at least five years to achieve long-term success.
Gyan believes that with a consistent team, the Black Stars can regain their former glory.
Gyan’s advice follows Ghana’s morale-boosting wins against. Mali and the Central African Republic, which have reignited their hopes for the 2026 World Cup qualification. Before these victories. The team had struggled with an early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and a winless streak of seven games.
With the return of Otto Addo on a long-term contract, Gyan sees potential for a positive turnaround but emphasizes the need for consistency and development of the current players.
“The team has given us hope,” Gyan said on UTV. “They’ve raised the spirit high. We should take it game by game and make sure we win. We have quality. It is a young team, a new generation.”
Gyan advises Ghanaians to manage their expectations and focus on the growth of the new squad. “We should limit our expectations and not dwell in the past,” he stated. “Let’s forget about trophies; if we win, it’s a plus. In five years’ time, if we can maintain 80% of this team, they can dominate.”
The 38-year-old Gyan, who retired from football in June 2023, holds the record for the most goals scored for the Black Stars with 51 goals. His insights and experience offer valuable guidance for the future of Ghanaian football.
