Ghanaian Premier League giants Asante Kotoko, have received a major boost with the homecoming of prolific striker Abdul Fatawu Safiu.
The 29-year-old, who tore through defenses during his first stint with Kotoko in 2018, returns on a two-year contract, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
“Kotoko is the club that I support and as a youngster it was my dream to play for them,” Safiu declared. “To get that opportunity twice makes me feel incredibly lucky. I’m ready to do everything to help the team succeed.”
Safiu’s return is a potent injection of firepower. His 13 goals in 16 appearances during his first spell speak volumes about his predatory instincts. Since then, he has gained valuable experience honing his skills in Sweden with Trelleborgs FF and FC Trollhättan, followed by a stint in Iraq with Al Sinaa SC. As a free agent since June 2023, Safiu returns with a renewed hunger to reclaim his place as a Kotoko legend.
Additionally, Kotoko has secured defender Emmanuel Kotei from fellow Ghana premier side Nsoatreman FC on a three-year deal, fortifying their defensive lineup.
Currently in third place with 29 points, Kotoko are looking to leave their slow start behind. The signings of Safiu and Kotei send a clear message of their second-half ambitions. They aim to climb the table and challenge for the ultimate prize, and their first test comes on February 23rd against Heart of Lions.
With a revitalized attack and a fortified defense, Asante Kotoko are poised to make a serious run in the second half of the season.
