Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah offered a glimmer of hope for Al Tai in their fight against relegation, registering an assist in their 3-1 defeat to league leaders Al-Hilal on Thursday evening.
The pressure was on from the start, with Salem Al Dawsari of Al-Hilal finding the net in the 16th minute. Michael extended Al-Hilal’s lead in the 43rd minute, leaving Al Tai in a precarious position. Malcom added another goal for the visitors in the 60th minute, seemingly sealing Al Tai’s fate.
However, Mensah’s fighting spirit shone through in the 64th minute. He provided a crucial assist for Andrei Cordea, who pulled one back for Al Tai. While it wasn’t enough to secure victory, Mensah’s contribution highlights his importance to the team.
This brings Mensah’s tally to an impressive 15 goals and 2 assists in just 29 league games this season
This loss puts Al Tai firmly in the relegation zone, sitting 16th in the table with 31 points after 33 matches. Their final match of the season on May 27 against Al Akhdoud becomes a must-win if they want to stay in the top league. Even then, Al Tai’s fate could depend on results from other relegation-threatened teams.
