Black Stars defeat Division Two side Star Makers FC in friendly encounter

The Black Stars of Ghana defeated Division Two side Star Makers FC 2-1 in a warmup game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Black Stars as part of their preparations for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against South Africa and Soa Tome later this month took on Madina-based side Star Makers in a friendly game.

Manager CK Akonnor handed starts to Asante Kotoko trio Razak Abalora, Christopher Netty and Imoro Ibrahim. China-based Mubarak Wakaso and Emmanuel Boateng were also handed starts.

Ghana opened the scoring in the opening minutes of the game through Emmanuel Boateng from the spot.

Star Makers pulled parity in the 30th minute through Alhassan Mahmud, goalkeeper Razak Abalora failed to grab an effort from outside the box.

CK Akonnor at the start of the second half introduced the likes of Diawisie Taylor, Kwame Poku, Gladson Awako, Michael Otu, Dennis Korsah and some few others.

The Black Stars after been held and frustrated for long by the Division two side grabbed the winning goal in the 70th minute of the game through Kwame Poku.

The team will continue camping in Accra as preparations for the AFCON qualifiers against Sudan and Soa Tome continues.

CK Akonnor is expected to augment the team with a number of foreign based players in the coming days.

Ghana will play South Africa on Thursday, March 25 at FNB Stadium in South Africa before hosting Soa Tome on Tuesday, March 30 in Accra.

The Black Stars currently sit top of Group C with 9 points from 4 games. The West African giants need just a point in the aforementioned games to secure a place at the 2022 AFCON to be staged in Cameroon.
