Black Stars Defender set to return for Sudan crucial game

Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku is expected to rejoin the squad for the crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan later this month.

The Fenerbahçe center-back missed Ghana’s opening two matches due to a late injury but is now fully recovered and ready for action.

Ghana struggled in Djiku’s absence, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and drawing 1-1 with Niger in Berkane, putting them in a difficult position in Group E.

The return of the experienced defender is seen as a timely boost for the Black Stars, who are determined to turn their fortunes around.

Djiku, who has made nine appearances for Fenerbahçe this season, is expected to bring stability and leadership to Ghana’s backline as they prepare for the doubleheader against Sudan.

Ghana will first host Sudan on Friday, October 11, before traveling to Libya for the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Monday, October 14.

With the Black Stars seeking their first win of the qualifiers, Djiku’s presence will be vital in helping the team secure much-needed points as they aim to qualify for the tournament in Morocco next year.
