Ghanaian side Dreams FC defied the odds with a stunning 2-1 comeback victory over Stade Malien of Mali in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final tie on Sunday.
The match played at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako, Mali, saw Dreams claw their way back from a deficit to take a crucial lead going into the second leg.
Stade Malien started strong and broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute through Yoro Diaby. However, Dreams FC never gave up and slowly grew into the game. Their persistence paid off in the 66th minute when experienced striker John Antwi equalized for the visitors.
Just five minutes later, Antwi, who formerly played for Al Ahly, struck again to put Dreams FC ahead. This second goal proved to be the match-winner, handing the Ghanaian club a significant advantage going into the second leg.
Dreams FC will return home for the second leg set for April 7th at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Ghana. With this away win under their belt, they will be confident in their ability to overcome Stade Malien and secure a place in the Confederation Cup semi-finals.
