The Black Galaxies of Ghana have been handed a 2-1 defeat at the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in their opening group game by Madagascar.
Debutants Madagascar put on a show on the night and opened the scoring after just 12 minutes in the first half through Solomanpionona Koloina.
The Black Galaxies looked to find themselves level after a great ball fell to Razak Yussif yet the Great Olympics forward failed to convert a golden opportunity from close range going into the break.
Madagascar doubled their lead after a defensive blunder by Augustine Randolph was capitalized by Tsiry Randriantsiferana.
However, In the 68th minute, Augustine Agyapong pulled one back for Ghana after being brought on and Ghana looked like they were going to find an equalizer with 20 minutes to go.
The Black Galaxies found themselves in a great position when Daniel Afriyie Barnieh was through on goal yet the Hearts of Oak man failed to convert from close range.
Madagascar recorded their first victory in the campaign’s history with Ghana eyeing a comeback in their next group C fixture with Sudan on 19th January, 2023.
