Chelsea Eye Elye Wahi as Potential Attacking Reinforcement

Chelsea are seeking to bolster their attacking options and have set their sights on France under-21 international Elye Wahi from Ligue 1 side Lens, according to L’Equipe.

The 21-year-old previously declined a move to Stamford Bridge last summer, opting instead to join Lens from Montpellier for £29 million. However, Wahi may be more receptive to a transfer this time around.

Last season, Wahi netted nine goals and provided three assists for Lens, building on the 19 goals he scored for Montpellier the previous year. His impressive 2022-23 tally surpassed Lionel Messi’s goal count for Paris Saint-Germain in the same season.

Chelsea view Wahi as a calculated risk—an emerging talent with significant potential without the hefty transfer fee of an established star. The club is now exploring the financial requirements to convince Lens to part ways with their promising forward.
