Roman Abramovich put the Blues up for sale almost two weeks ago now, but since then, the billionaire has been hit with sanctions from the UK government, with his assets in the country being frozen.
This has put the sale into some doubt, but there are still plenty of interested parties. Todd Boehly’s consortium, the Ricketts family, Nick Can,dy and Robert “Woody” Johnson are a select few who have expressed their interest in the purchase of Chelsea FC.
With the situation as complicated as it is, though, there are some expectations from Chelsea supporters.
The statement read: “Key asks and expectations of the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust in any sale of the club: The Government must resolve the situation as quickly and transparently as possible.
“The Government must implement the recommendations of the Fan Led Review – including by ensuring Chelsea fans are given a golden share by the new owners of the club.
“The CPO (Chelsea Pitch Owners) must be protected in all circumstances.
“Roman Abramovich’s tenure at Chelsea is almost certain to end, and our focus must be on what comes next and ensuring a sustainable future for the club.”
Chelsea technical advisor Petr Cech was asked by Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon about the club’s recent dialogue with the UK government, but the former Blues goalkeeper was not able to share too much information.
He said: “That is something that I am not involved in but we have the board and people from the club talking to the government every day about the current licensee and how we can operate, and what we can do to try and finish the season the best way that we can.
“It is a conversation that we are constantly going over and over but we are going day by day, trying to focus on every game and we are hoping that the situation is clearer soon.”
Cech also had a message to any potential buyers: “Chelsea Football Club has 117 years of history and has had a lot of success, with that coming down to the hard work and dedication of the people who have worked for the club since it was founded and have been on this journey of success.
“Of course, I hear around that people are trying to erase the last 19 years of the football community but this is not about money, this is about dedication and hard work of the players and the people behind the scenes to make the club successful.
“We have done it within all of the rules and all of the financial fair play and everything that was in our power, and this should not be forgotten.”
