Chelsea secures young Ghanaian talent with first professional contract

Chelsea FC has officially announced the signing of Swedish-Ghanaian defender Genesis Antwi to his first professional contract.

The 17-year-old’s contract was confirmed on Friday, September 6, 2024, marking a significant step in his promising career.

Although specifics regarding the contract’s duration have not been disclosed, Chelsea highlighted Antwi’s impressive journey through their youth academy.

Antwi joined the club at the Under-12 level and became a full-time scholar at the beginning of the 2023/24 season.

Antwi made a notable impact last season, playing a crucial role in Chelsea’s Under-18 Premier League South title victory.

He also contributed to their Under-17 Premier League Cup triumph against Wolverhampton Wanderers in April.

His performances earned him opportunities with the Under-21 team, where he made three appearances.

At just 17, Antwi is already making a name for himself within Chelsea’s youth system, and his move to a professional contract reflects his potential and the club’s belief in his future prospects.
