Chris Hughton to take over Black Stars job after 2022 WC playoff against Nigeria – Sources
Former Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion boss, Chris Hughton is set to be appointed as the substantive Black Stars boss after the 2022 World Cup playoff against Nigeria.
The former Irish boss on Wednesday was confirmed as the technical advisor to the newly constituted interim Black Stars technical team led by Otto Addo and assisted by George Boateng and Didi Dramani.
Before the announcement by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association [GFA], Highton was strongly linked to the job following the dismissal of Milovan Rajevac last month.
However, according to sources, Hughton will be awarded a two-year deal as the new Black Stars gaffer whether the team book a place in the 2022 World Cup or not.
The Norwich City manager, Chris Hughton was offered the position of Technical Advisor for the crucial playoffs with Nigeria next month. This, in the view of the GFA, will allow him [Chris Hughton] the opportunity to familiarize himself with the team and also bring his experience to support efforts towards qualifying for Qatar 2022 according to sources.
Hughton has held successful talks with George Boateng and Otto Addo in London on Thursday as they prepare for the two games.
Ghana will host their rivals, the Super Eagles on March 24 at the Cape Coast Stadium before travelling to Abuja for the return game on March 29.
The Black Stars having failed to play in the last edition of the Mundial in 2018 in Russia will be hoping to return to the global showpiece for the fourth time.
