Chris Hughton visits Nii Ayi Bonte II

The former Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton has paid a courtesy call on the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II.

The 63-year-old, who was born to a Ghanaian postman, Willie Hughton, has been in Ghana since Friday (28 January 2022).

On Thursday morning, the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager visited the James Town office of the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, who doubles as the Adonten of the Ga State.

Hughton has emerged as one of the options being considered by the Ghana Football Association to coach the Black Stars. The national team are without a head coach after Milovan Rajevac was sacked, following Ghana’s disappointing exit from the 2021 AFCON.

“It’s a pleasure for me to meet you and I’ve heard so much about you and I know how much you enjoy football,” the former Brighton boss told the Gbese Mantse.

“Predominantly, the reason I’m here is to see family. My father is from James Town and this will be a very proud moment for him.

“I very much appreciate and welcome your words of wisdom and this is something that I’ll take forward with me.”

Speaking at the short meeting, Nii Ayi Bonte II blessed Hughton. The Gbese Mantse urged him to continue being a shining example to the people of James Town.
