Uruguay players, including Darwin Nunez, rushed into the stands at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte after violence reportedly erupted in the section where players’ families were seated.
Nunez was seen climbing railings and confronting Colombia fans while others attempted to hold him back. This incident has prompted Liverpool to contact the Uruguayan Federation to gather details about what transpired and ensure the safety and welfare of Nunez and his family.
Following the game, Uruguay players explained that their actions were motivated by a need to protect their families. The match itself saw Colombia secure a 1-0 victory over Uruguay, with Jefferson Lerma scoring the decisive goal in the first half. Despite playing with 10 men after Dani Munoz was sent off in first-half stoppage time, Colombia managed to hold on to their lead. They are set to face Argentina in the final on Monday.
