David Moyes Expresses Regret On Failing To Sign Michael Essien For Everton In 2005.

Ex Everton gaffer David Moyes has detailed his disappointment after failing to capture Michael Essien’s signature for the Toffees in 2005.

According to Moyes, Essien was just one of many players they wanted to sign and concedes the Ghanaian was not his only transfer failure as he missed out on Toni Kroos, Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas later on in his career.
“One of them would be Michael Essien, to bring him to Everton, Toni Kroos would certainly be one at Manchester United, and at that time as well we were very much after Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas.”

Essien eventually joined Mourinho’s Chelsea that year for a fee of around  £24.4 million and went ahead to win nine major trophies at the club.
