After a 10-hour non stop trilling encounter of basketball, Denu Coasters were crowned champions after they beat Aftown Flames in the finals of the championship at the Ho Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The championship; in honor of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah saw teams come from Denu , Aflao, Buem, Hohoe, Kpando, Ho and even Kumasi. Notable teams like the City Ballers ,Wolves, Chiefs, KBA Bruins, Akpini Snipers and Mawuvi Basketball Club were all present to compete for the trophy and prize money.
All teams trilled spectators and their fans with incredible display of individual skills and talent. Most teams showed incredible maturity and clear understanding of the game as they displayed top-notch performances in their quest to edge out their opponents. The highest scoring game of the championship was between the Akpini Snipers and the City Ballers where spectators were treated to an end-to-end game. The game ended in favor of the Akpini Snipers as they proved too strong for the Ballers.
The Snipers, however, were eliminated by the Aftown Flames in the semi finals after the Flames put up a spirited performance to comeback after being behind for the first 2 quarters. The other semi final game saw Denu Coasters edge out Wolves to set up a final with the Aftown Flames. The Flames started brightly as they were ahead after the first half but failed to keep the tempo up and lost their guard as the Coasters fought hard to comeback and win the final.
The Coasters sent home a cash prize of Gh¢ 2000 cedis, gold medals for all team members and a trophy. The Aftown Flames also received silver medals and a cash prize of Gh¢ 1000 cedis with the Akpini Snipers receiving Gh¢ 500 cedis and bronze medals.
The tournament was sponsored by Adonai Estate Limited, a real estate agency in Ho. Speaking at the closing ceremony, CEO of Adonai Estate Limited, Mr. Bright Adonai congratulated all the teams for their participation and confirmed that some players will be selected from the championship to face the National Basketball Team on January 1st at the grand opening of the Golf City Sports Arena in Wayanu in the Volta Region.
