Ecuador has parted ways with head coach Félix Sánchez following their Copa América quarter-final defeat to Argentina. The country’s football federation (FEF) announced the decision on July 5, 2024.
Despite reaching the quarterfinals for the third time in the last four editions, Ecuador was knocked out by the defending champions in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Sánchez, who previously coached Qatar to their first-ever Asian Cup win in 20219, joined Ecuador in March 2023 with a four-year contract. The FEF expressed gratitude for his efforts, stating, “We thank Félix and his coaching staff for their work and professionalism, and wish him success in his future endeavors.”
