Ex-GFA Comms. Dir. Sannie Daara urges patience for Otto Addo’s Black Stars rebuild

Sannie Daara, former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has expressed confidence in the current head coach of Ghana’s senior men’s team, Otto Addo, and his technical staff.

He believes they are diligently working to build a “formidable” squad for the nation, despite recent challenges in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Daara, who is now a senior media officer at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), urged fans to remain patient as the coaching team strives to create a cohesive and competitive side.

“The Black Stars defeated Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup with a very young team. If you look at the squad, we had the momentum going into the World Cup, even though we were eliminated early. However, we struggled to sustain that momentum,” Daara noted.

He highlighted that the frequent coaching changes over the past few years have taken a toll on the team’s confidence and consistency.

“I believe the constant changes in the coaching staff have hindered the team’s development and affected their ability to perform well in tournaments or even against less formidable sides,” Daara explained.

“Now, the technical team is in the process of building a young and promising team, so we must exercise patience.”

The Black Stars have faced scrutiny for their underwhelming performances in the AFCON qualifiers, and they are currently on the brink of failing to qualify for the tournament.

However, Daara’s remarks emphasize the long-term vision that Addo and his team are working towards.

Ghana’s upcoming fixtures will be crucial in determining their AFCON 2025 fate.

The Black Stars will travel to Luanda to face Angola on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT.

Following that, they will return to Accra for a home match against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, with kick-off at 16:00 GMT.
