Ex Ghana Coach Calls for Black Stars Rebuild Centred Around Mohammed Kudus

Former Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor is urging the Black Stars to turn the page and build their future around midfielder Mohammed Kudus. While acknowledging the contributions of veterans Andre and Jordan Ayew, Akonnor believes Kudus’ recent performances demand a change in direction.

“The earlier, of course, the better,” Akonnor stressed. “The Ayew brothers have served Ghana well, but considering Kudus’ current form, it makes perfect sense to centre the Black Stars around him. He (Kudus) has silenced doubters and proven he has the potential to be a star.”

Kudus has impressed in his first year with West Ham, racking up 12 goals and 5 assists in all competitions.  This strong showing has convinced Akonnor, who played 51 times for Ghana and also coached the national team, that Kudus is ready to take centre stage.

With Ghana’s next 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic coming up in June, Akonnor emphasizes the urgency to build the team around Kudus. This shift could signal a new era for the Black Stars, one led by the exceptional talent of Mohammed Kudus.
