Former Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan has offered valuable advice to the current Black Stars squad as they gear up for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, scheduled to kick off on January 13, 2024.

Drawing on his extensive experience with the national team, Annan emphasized the crucial role of consistent performance and strong team unity in navigating the challenges ahead.

“If they play consistently amongst themselves, things will be fine, like during our time,” Annan stated, referencing his own successful AFCON appearances

“We are praying that they are able to identify with each other because the task before them is big. They need to contain it and show their worth, just like how we were able to do during our time.” He added

Annan, who boasts 67 caps and featured in four AFCON tournaments for Ghana, understands the immense pressure and expectations surrounding the Black Stars. Their Group B opponents – Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique – present a unique mix of familiar foes and potential underdogs.

The Black Stars’ journey begins with a friendly against Namibia on January 8 before they head to Ivory Coast for the main event.

Moreover, Annan’s call for consistency and unity resonates with fans yearning for a return to the Black Stars’ golden years.

Anthony Annan, currently playing for German lower-tier side DJK Arminia Lirich, stressed on the importance of playing with synchronized movements and mental fortitude, qualities that were hallmarks of Ghana’s past successes. While recent struggles have raised concerns, Annan’s optimism serves as a reminder of the team’s potential and the possibility of rewriting their AFCON narrative.
