Former Ghana striker Baffour Gyan has expressed optimism for the Black Stars’ future despite recent struggles. The national team is undergoing a rebuild following an early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which was held in Ivory Coast this year.
This setback led to the dismissal of coach Chris Hughton and his technical team.
Baffour Gyan, who himself earned 25 caps and scored 4 goals for Ghana, reflected the national sentiment: “The Black Stars are in a rebuilding process and it is the hope of every Ghanaian that it goes well. They are putting things together. We are wishing it goes well and I believe it will.” He said
Following the AFCON disappointment, Otto Addo, who previously guided Ghana to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, was reappointed as coach. While recent friendlies produced a loss to Nigeria and a draw with Uganda, Gyan remains confident in the team’s direction.
Ghana’s next chance to prove their mettle comes in June’s World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic. With Addo at the helm and a team in transition, the Black Stars aim to return to winning ways and secure a path to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
