Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku took to Facebook to express his disbelief and excitement after Dreams FC secured a historic place in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals.
Reflecting on the surreal achievement, Kurt Okraku, who also owns Dreams FC, wrote, “It’s still a dream!!! OMG!! Congratulations Coach Zito, congratulations boys, and congratulations management…..! But it’s still a DREAM!!”
Dreams FC opened the scoring through Abdul Aziz Issah, but Rivers United fought back. Echeta Deputy and Kazie Godswill found the net for the Nigerian side, securing victory despite the Ghanaian team’s valiant effort.
Despite the loss, Dreams FC emerged triumphant, topping Group C with 12 points. They edged past Rivers United, who also had 12 points, due to a superior goal difference.
Tunisia’s Club Africain (10 points) and Academica Petroleos do Lobito (1 point) of Angola finished third and fourth, respectively, and were eliminated.
This qualification marks a significant milestone for Dreams FC. It is their first time reaching the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals in their debut year in the competition. They also become the first Ghanaian club to reach this stage since Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak in 2004.
Dreams FC will eagerly await the forthcoming draw for the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals, set to be announced by CAF in the coming days. Their journey in the CAF Confederation Cup has already cemented their place in Ghanaian football history, drawing widespread celebration and excitement from the country’s football association president.
