Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey is calling for a strong performance from his teammates ahead of their critical 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali.
“We have to do our best to stop Mali, stop their best players, and concentrate on the way we play to get the result we want,” Partey said, underlining the importance of the match.
Partey will lead the Black Stars in the absence of veteran Andre Ayew, who was not included in the 23-man squad. This marks Partey’s return to the national team after missing the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. His last appearance came in a friendly match against the USA in August 2023.
Ghana currently sits precariously in 5th place in Group I with just 3 points, having won against Madagascar but losing to Comoros. They need a positive result against Mali to boost their qualification chances.
The match kicks off at 19:00 GMT on June 6th at the Stade 26 Mars in Bamako, Mali.
