The Black Stars of Ghana look set to keep their TotalEnergies Africa cup of Nations up and running as they square off against Gabon from the stade Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde for their second group game on friday at 7pm.
This will be the first time since 2011 the two countries come neck to neck as the Black Stars cruised to a 2-1 victory when last they met in a friendly.
Gabon starts this years campaign on a brighter note as they saw off inexperienced Comoros side by a goal to nil in their first group clash. The first time in three matches where Patrice Neveu’s men record a victory as once were thumped 2-1 by Egypt in their World cup qualifiers and a 1-1 drawn game with Mauritania in a friendly.
Ghana,on the other hand failed to impress kickstarting the 33rd edition of the continental showdown with a 1-0 defeat to Morroco when Sofiane Boufal’s late strike ensured the Atlas Lions cruise to victory.
This comes after they were anihilated 3-0 by reigning Champions Algeria in a warm up friendly on January 5th before the start of the tournament proper.
Boosted by the return of Arsenals Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to the Gabonese team together with Lamine following the end of their covid-19 quarantine rules, they are definitely going to give the Stars a big run for their money.
