Ghanaian defender David Acquah has embarked on a new chapter in his career, securing a move to Swiss club FC Aarau on a free transfer.
The 23-year-old centre-back, out of contract since leaving Israeli side Maccabi Haifa in August 2023, has penned a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Swiss second-tier outfit.
Acquah started his career with Ghanaian lower-tier side Tudu Mighty Jet before joining Maccabi Haifa’s youth setup on loan in 2019. He transitioned to the first team in 2020 but gained experience through loan spells at Hapoel Afula and Hapoel Nof HaGalil, accumulating 101 appearances combined.
His impressive physical presence and defensive skills caught the eye of FC Aarau sports director Elsad Zverotic, who stated, “As a tall central defender, he brings a new element to our team thanks to his physical presence.”
FC Aarau is currently sitting comfortably in fourth place in the Swiss Challenge League with 26 points from 20 games.
David Acquah will be eager to prove himself in Switzerland, aiming to contribute to FC Aarau’s promotion push. Acquah’s next chance to showcase his abilities comes on February 10th when his new club takes on Stade Nyonnais in the league.
