Ghanaian forward Abdul-Aziz Yakubu was instrumental in Rio Ave’s convincing 3-0 victory over Gil Vicente in the Portuguese Primeira Liga on Saturday.
The 26-year-old striker doubled Rio Ave’s lead from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute, adding comfort to the advantage João Teixeira had established with the opening goal in the 30th minute.
Joca then put the game to bed with a third goal for Rio Ave in the 63rd minute, securing all three points.
This win lifts Rio Ave to 11th place on the league table with 29 points after 28 matches. They will face their next league challenge on April 14 against Estoril Praia Amadora.
Yakubu has been a key contributor for Rio Ave since returning from a loan spell at Chinese club Wuhan Three Towns in January 2024. He has notched 5 goals in just 12 league appearances, showcasing his goal-scoring prowess.
This strong performance further strengthens Yakubu’s growing reputation. Abdul-Aziz Yakubu played for Ghanaian side Charity Stars FC before venturing abroad in 2016.
With his current form, Yakubu is sure to be a player to watch in the upcoming matches and could play a crucial role in helping Rio Ave climb the Primeira Liga table.
