Ghanaian striker Ebenezer Assifuah came off the bench to score a crucial late winner, securing Kedah Darul Aman’s first victory of the season in the Malaysian top-flight league.
Assifuah, the former FIFA U20 Golden Boot winner, made an immediate impact after replacing Milos Gordic with twenty minutes left in the game against Penang FC.
Just seven minutes later, the 30-year-old forward rounded the Penang goalkeeper and calmly slotted home in the 77th minute, giving Kedah a much-needed 1-0 win on the road.
This win marks Kedah’s first triumph in four matches, providing a significant boost to their campaign. Assifuah, who moved to Malaysia in January 2023 after a decade in Europe, signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year.
He is expected to play a pivotal role as the Northern Malaysia-based club aims for a strong finish in the 2024/25 season.
Meanwhile, Assifuah’s compatriot, Richmond Ankrah, was also in action for Penang FC. The former Accra Lions defender played the entire duration of the match but couldn’t prevent his team from suffering a defeat.
Kedah Darul Aman will be looking to build on this momentum as they continue their quest for success in the Malaysian league, with Assifuah poised to be a key figure in their campaign.
