Ghana’s Rising Star: Semenyo Credits Ayew & Gyan for Premier League Success

Semenyo

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo, has opened up on the backing and support he has received from both Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan for his Premier League career so far.

Semenyo is one game away from completing his debut season in England’s elite division with Bournemouth and he has managed to score 8 goals in 32 league matches.

The haul includes the two he scored against Luton in one of the best comeback wins in the league this season.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with SuperSport on the network’s “In the Premier League Chair” programme, Semenyo stated that he had received loads of kind words from Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan, who themselves represented Ghana in the Premier League sometime back.

“Whenever I go for international duty with Ghana, I see them and speak to them. For Andre, he is still with the national team currently but for Gyan, he is at some of the games.

Andre tells me to keep going and that at my age, he did not have my abilities and so, he tells me to keep pushing myself and that I need to keep going when I feel that I have reached a certain level.

Gyan has told me the same things and he added that I had to take my chances, to keep meeting the bar and going above it and to enjoy the moment.  I watched these two guys growing up in the World Cup and the Premier League and they are great examples to me.”

Semenyo is two goals away from joining the likes of Tony Yeboah, Andre Ayew, and Asamoah Gyan, as Ghanaian players who have scored ten goals or more in a single Premier League season. The other Ghanaian player in the league who could join the record makers this season is Mohammed Kudus of West Ham.

When asked if there was some friendly competition among the Ghanaian contingent in terms of the landmark, Semenyo said that it was more of encouragement and support.

“There isn’t too much banter, to be fair. It is more of ‘he is in the league, I am in the league, he is doing well, I am doing well’. As Ghanaians, we are happy for each other but of course, there is a little bit of competition but we just keep going.”

Semenyo will hope to feature in Bournemouth’s last league game of the season at Stamford Bridge on May 19.
