Harry Kane says Spurs must ‘take advantage’ of Antonio Conte’s tenure

Harry Kane has admitted Tottenham must “take advantage” of new manager Antonio Conte’s arrival as they look to climb the table under the Italian.

Spurs have improved since ditching Nuno Espirito Santo for Conte, going nine games unbeaten in the Premier League as they target a top four spot.

There has been speculation over Kane’s future since the summer but the England captain is starting to look like his old self again – performing particularly well in the 3-2 victory over Leicester on Wednesday – and says the squad have responded well to Conte’s arrival.

He told Sky Sports: “He’s one of the best managers in the world.

“We’ve not really reached the heights we’ve wanted to as a club over the last couple of years. It’s a big opportunity now to take advantage of what we’ve got.

“He’s a manager that demands a lot. He’s doing everything he can and as players we’ve responded really well to him and everyone’s working as hard as possible to get success. That’s the ultimate goal for everyone here at the club.”

Kane was eager to leave in the summer but no transfer materialised, with Manchester City failing to submit an acceptable bid, and the striker revealed he is focused on trying to win silverware and moving up the Premier League table rather than his own future.

He added: “I just want to be playing at the highest level possible.

“My focus is fully on this season and trying to get as high up the league as possible. We’re still in the FA Cup and we’re trying to win a trophy.

“I’m not going to go into loads of detail about anything else going on. It’s just about working hard for the team and trying to improve.”

Spurs are next in action on Sunday when they travel to face Chelsea.
