HEARTS BEAT KOTOKO TO LIFT 2023 PRESIDENT CUP

Accra Hearts of Oak beat rivals Asante Kotoko to lift the 2023 President Cup and secure the three maximum points on 5th March 2023 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Hearts broke the deadlock in the 58th minute through center back Konadu Yiadom.  The former WAFA captain latched on to Linda Mtange’s cross with a thumping header. This was a well deserved lead, the Phobians had earlier on been denied by goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim in the first half.

Kotoko huffed and puffed hoping to get the equaliser but several attempts failed to find the goalpost of Hearts goalkeeper Richmond Ayi. Hearts sat deep but had Kotoko under pressure with electric counterattack play.

In the 85th minute Steve Mukwala beat Hearts goalkeeper Richmond Ayi but his header came off the woodwork. Kotoko appealed for a penalty in the 94th minute, Steve Mukwala was brought down by Hearts left back Dennis Korsah but Referee Aduntra Jacob waved for play to continue.

For two consecutive seasons Hearts have beaten Kotoko in the President’s Cup. Linda Mtange was adjudged the most valuable player of the match.

Hearts of Oak received a prize money of 50,000 Ghana cedis plus three maximum points.
