Ibrahim Sulemana & Atalanta: A Reunion Fueled by Excitement for European Glory

Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana expressed his excitement on social media after completing his return to Atalanta Bergamo, the club where his European adventure began five years ago.

The Europa League champions announced the signing on Thursday, July 17, 2024, without disclosing the length of the contract that brings him back from Cagliari.

Sulemana, 21, started his European journey in the Atalanta youth academy in 2021. “[I am] excited to be back home Atalanta BC where my European journey started five years ago,” he wrote on social media. “I can’t wait to give my all on the field to the people of Bergamo.”

The dynamic midfielder impressed during his debut season at Cagliari, joining them from Hellas Verona after their promotion to Serie A. Ibrahim Sulemana featured in 24 games in all competitions for Cagliari, scoring two goals during his time with the club.

Sulemana’s return bolsters Atalanta’s midfield options as they prepare for a crucial season. The club finished a strong 4th in Italian Serie A last season, accumulating 69 points after 38 games. This impressive performance earned them a coveted spot in the UEFA Champions League for the 2024/25 season.

However, before their Champions League campaign kicks off, Atalanta faces a significant challenge in the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid, the reigning Champions League champions, on August 12th. As Europa League winners, Atalanta has the opportunity to claim another European trophy.

Following the Super Cup, Atalanta will kick off their Serie A campaign with an opening fixture against Lecce on August 19.Β  Sulemana’s return adds depth and dynamism to the midfield, potentially playing a key role in their domestic and European aspirations.
