Long-serving Ghanaian Football coach J.E Sarpong has jumped into the conversation as to why the standard of the Ghana Premier League has fallen in recent years.
The former Kotoko and Hearts Of Oak gaffer admitted player Exodus one main factor but can’t also rule out the poor state and structure of the inter-schools games in recent years.
Clubs in Ghana are unable to pay players a minimum wage of $200 to keep them for more than one season which has led to the rise in player exodus in recent times, former Hearts great Charles Taylor shared the same sentiment.
“There is truth in what Charles Taylor said. During his time, the skills displayed and the technical know-how of the players were top-notch; their skills brought a lot of fans to the stadium. The current generation lacks that”
“During their time, players were not in a hurry to move outside, there were no player-agents as well. The inter-schools game was effective so we could scout players and train them. The standards have fallen because the players don’t stay for long and move to Europe.”
