During Kotoko 5-0 win over Bibiani Gold Stars, Assistant referee Theophilus Akugre was seen racing onto the field of play when the home team were on the move to score their second goal.
Theophilus Akugre produced an unbelievable run and closely monitoring the home side’s movement instead of staying in his natural lineman position.
It is something most football fans have not seen before and the first time such had happen in the Ghanaian topflight division.
Many have been confused since watching the viral video with others suggesting the referee was unprofessional and aided Kotoko To Score Second.
But Soccanews.com checks indicate that there have been an amendment in the Laws of the game where assistant referees are allowed to assist center referees with fouls and misconduct, especially in cases where VAR is not available.
IFAB gives referees the right to enter the field of play at a distance of 10yards in exceptional circumstances.
Below are documents of what the law says.
