It’s really a pity”- Ghana coach Otto Addo reacts to Baba Yara Stadium ban

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has bemoaned the unavailability of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for Ghana’s next game in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in October.

The Confederation of Africa Football withdrew its approval of the stadium for category 3 games following technical infractions, including unsuitable playing field.

The Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are on a hunt for a new venue for the Black Stars, which could see the team also play their home match abroad.

Reacting to the disappointing news, Addo described the situation as a pity, but remains poised in leading the team back to the Nations Cup.

“First of all if it comes like this and that is how it looks then it’s a pity,” he told Micky Jr during the CAF coaches symposium in Ivory Coast this week.

“Surely we always love to play in front of our home crowd but at the end of the day we have to do the best out of the situation. If we have to play somewhere else then it is like that. I don’t want to use my energy to think too much about that because it is not in our hands, there is nothing we can do about it, it is a CAF decision,” he added.

The Black Stars will face Sudan in October in a home-and-away affair when the AFCON qualifiers returns.

Meanwhile, the team picked just a point in two matches in their opening two games following a defeat to Angola and a draw against Niger.
