Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku put on a stellar performance for Istanbul Basaksehir, scoring a goal and assisting another in their 3-0 victory over Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig.
The 25-year-old center-back first provided the decisive touch for Philippe Keny in the 54th minute, doubling the lead after Serdar Gurler’s opening goal in the 24th minute.
Opoku then sealed the win with a goal of his own in the 68th minute, showcasing his attacking prowess from the back.
This outstanding display propels Basaksehir to 11th place on the league table with 23 points after 19 matches.
Jerome Opoku, currently on loan from Portuguese side Rio Ave, has now contributed a remarkable 3 goals and 1 assist in 10 league appearances this season.
Opoku’s excellent form earned him a spot in Ghana’s provisional 50-man squad for the upcoming AFCON tournament, although he didn’t make the final cut.
However, Opoku’s performances for Basaksehir could see him back in contention for future national team call-ups, especially if he continues to excel on the pitch.
With his confidence soaring and his team on the rise, Opoku will be aiming to maintain his impressive form when Basaksehir host Alanyaspor on January 13th in the next round of the Turkish Super Lig.
