Juventus chief rules out Anthony Martial loan

Juventus director Maurizio Arrivabene has claimed Juventus will no longer pursue a loan deal for Manchester United outcast Anthony Martial this month, with the Frenchman’s wages proving problematic.

The striker has made it clear to United interim manager Ralf Rangnick and the club’s hierarchy that he wishes to leave Old Trafford this month.

Martial’s position now seems completely untenable after he became embroiled in a war of words with Rangnick, who accused him of refusing to travel for Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Aston Villa. The 26-year-old denied that claim, saying he would never refuse to play for Man Utd.

The France international has drawn interest from Juve, Newcastle and La Liga side Sevilla. 90min revealed last week that the Italian giants had opened talks with United with a view to taking the forward on loan for the rest of the season.

However, it seems his wages are proving to be a major stumbling block – the same reason talks with Sevilla stalled.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset ahead of Juvenus‘ match against Sampdoria on Tuesday night, Arrivabene said: “Not at those figures, no. We aren’t even going to discuss it at certain figures.

“With current conditions [loan fee and paying full salary paid] it’s not a feasible deal for us. Considering certain numbers, there are no advanced talks – we don’t expect any discount [from Man Utd].”

90min understands that Martial will be allowed to leave as long as he takes a pay cut. As it stands, neither United nor any prospective loan club are willing to stump up the full sum of his £78,000-per-week salary.
