Borussia Monchengladbach have confirmed the sale of Denis Zakaria to Serie A giants Juventus.
Zakaria has widely been expected to leave this month with Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all being linked with the midfielder.
However, in the end it was Juve who won the race for his signature, with Monchengladbach announcing his departure for Turin on their website.
“We’ve been working intensively on this transfer to Juventus in recent weeks and Denis played an important role in it,” said Borussia Vice President Rainer Bonhof.
“He told us openly that he wanted to move and he also made it clear that he wanted to enable us to get a fee for his transfer. Because in the end, from our point of view, the economic conditions were right, we approved the transfer. Denis deserves our thanks for his open dealings with us, just like for his performances in the Borussia shirt over the past four and a half years. We wish him all the best and every success for his future path.”
Zakaria is understood to have cost Juve just €5m as his Gladbach deal was set to expire at the end of the season anyway.
He comes in as midfield cover for the departing Rodrigo Bentancur, who is expected to join Tottenham imminently. Aaron Ramsey is also set to complete a move to Scottish side Rangers.
