Canadian-born Ghanaian striker Kwasi Poku emerged as the hero for Forge FC, scoring a brace to lead his team to a crucial 2-1 victory over Pacific FC in the Canadian Premier League (CPL).
The match, held at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario, saw Pacific take the early lead through a penalty converted by Ayman Sellouf in the 33rd minute.
However, Forge FC bounced back with a dominant second-half performance. Poku, who played the entire match, ignited the comeback with his first goal just after the break.
The 21-year-old forward wasn’t done there. In the 85th minute, Poku rose to the occasion again, this time heading home a corner kick to secure all three points for Forge FC. This brace extends Poku’s red-hot scoring streak to eight goals in his last 18 appearances across all competitions, solidifying his position as the league’s most in-form finisher. He is not just a scorer though, Poku has also chipped in with two assists during that impressive run.
Fellow Ghanaian winger Nana Ampomah also saw action for Forge FC, coming on as a substitute for Beni Badibanga in the 61st minute.
The win propels Forge FC into third place in the CPL standings with 21 points after 13 games played. They also have a game in hand compared to some of their rivals.
With Kwasi Poku firing on all cylinders, Forge FC will be a force to be reckoned with as they continue their quest for a CPL championship. Their next challenge comes on July 20 when they face Cavalry FC in a pivotal league encounter.
