Ghana’s Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston has credited meticulous scouting as a key factor in his team’s hard-earned 2-0 victory over Benin on Tuesday. This win secured their place in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.
“This game was far from easy,” Kingston acknowledged. He downplayed pre-match expectations, stating, “People thought it would be a walk in the park, but it wasn’t.”
However, Laryea Kingston revealed a tactical advantage. “We were very lucky that we saw their game against Ivory Coast,” Kingston explained. “So that gave us the advantage to see what they were bringing on board.” This prior analysis seems to have paid off, allowing Ghana to exploit weaknesses and emerge victorious. Mark Kagawa and Theophilus Ayamga’s goals propelled the Black Starlets to the knockout stages.
Ghana, under Kingston’s leadership, has dominated Group A. They secured a perfect record with this win, adding to their opening victory over Ivory Coast.
With their sights set on the ultimate prize, qualification for the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana continues their journey. Their strong performance under Kingston’s guidance positions them as strong contenders for a place on the continental stage.
