LFA Appoints Selamawit Zeray Kebede as the head coach for Women’s National Team of Liberia

The Liberia Footbal Association have appointed Ethiopian Licence A coach Selamawit Zeray Kebede as the head coach of the Senior Women’s National Team of Liberia.

During the unveiling ceremony, LFA President Mustapha I. Raji said when they took over in 2018, their goal was to increase women participation, reactivate all levels of women football teams, adding that through their work they started and inherted eight (8) clubs at the level of Leauge.

He explained that there was only one female leauge in the country at that time for women football, but today they are proud through the work of the Executive Commitee and the leadership comparise of standing committee members of women footbal, they have (12) women teams in the upper leauge and (12) women teams in the Lower Leauge and(8) women teams in the commuity league.

He added that women football is ongoing in four other regions.

“So today, it is huge improvement for our football interm of increasing participation for women playing football, women in leadership and also looking at how we can grow women football in schools”, Raji said.

He stated that the Liberia Football Association Goals and Objective is to empower and create the opportunity for girls and boys to play, adding that today, he is proud of the women football committee.

“We can boost that our administration are ensuring that at the top of leadership we have position reserved only for woman to prove to the world that Liberia is open and creating chance for female participation at the hand of leadership.

Mr. Raji mentioned that today, they have a Third Vice President position that is reserved for female.

He concluded that it all about straigting the senior national team and the youth national team programs.

He thanked the executives commitee for their continue support and stakesholders for their operation interm of developing football in Liberia.

For her part, Coach Selamawit Zeray Kebed said according to her contract she is in Liberia to coach, train, manage and supersvise women’s national teams.

Deputy Minister Andy Quamie said the Ministry of Youth and Sports want to express their gratitude to the Liberia Football Association.

He explained that he know there will be challenges.

He pointed out that some will be asking why we dont take our coaches from Liberia, why we bringing foreigners coaches?

But Min. Quamie acknowledged that even England, America and other countries hire foreign coaches, if they know the other coaches in their area are not performing well or not but they so it to give another favor.

He further said it is a good thing the Liberia Footbal Association President, Mustapha l. Rajl, have done by bringing a foreign coach and want to extend their gratitude to the LFA Boss and his Executive Commitee Memebers.

Deputy Minister Andy Quamie, said that they hope madam Selamawit will suceed to take their national team to where they have not been in order to be added in history and a record for her.
