Liverpool’s Champions League record against the Quarterfinals teams

Liverpool have met Bayern Munich twice in the European Cup, eliminating them from the semi-final in 1981 and the round of 16 in 2019 on the way to winning the trophy on both occasions.

Their only meeting with Manchester City in the competition saw them win 5-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals in 2018, while they have a mixed record against Real Madrid, beating the Spanish giants in the 1981 final and the round of 16 in 2009, but losing both group games in 2014, the final in 2018 and being eliminated by them in the quarter-finals last season.

The Reds are unbeaten in four groups games against Atletico – including two wins earlier this season – but lost home and away in the round of 16 in 2020. Liverpool knocked out Benfica in 1978, 1984 and 1985 but were dumped out in the round of 16 in 2006.

The Reds have never met Villarreal in the Champions League but did beat them in the Europa League semi-final in 2016, while Chelsea were regular opponents earlier in the century, Liverpool winning the semi-finals of 2005 and 2007 and drawing twice in the group stage in 2006, but losing the 2008 semi-final and 2009 quarter-final.
