The Belgian international, who has been linked to many Premier League clubs this summer, is now expected to sign with the league’s reigning champions.
The 21-year-old player and Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, had personal conversations about his upcoming transfer.
Doku has already agreed to the terms of a long-term contract with the triple-champion squad on a personal level.
The medical tests for the player will be conducted later this week.
Doku scored for Rennes in their inaugural Ligue 1 match against Metz, adding to the six goals he scored in the league the previous year.
Guardiola’s team has already started its title defence with victories over Burnley and Newcastle, going 2-0.
