Match Report: Asante Kotoko fight back to beat league leaders Aduana Stars

Asante Kotoko from a goal down beat league leaders Aduana Stars 2-1 at the Babayara stadium on match day 27 of the Betpawa premier league.

Both sides started the game from the go but Kotoko had the upper hand in possession. Aduana Stars constantly launched their attacks on the left side of the Kotoko defense.

On the 24th minute Emmanuel Gyamfi made light work of Asante Kotoko full back Augustine Agyapong before sending in a lovely cross but goalkeeper Frederick Asare parried the follow up header into the path of Eric Mintah who hammered in the opener on the 25th minute.

Kelvin Obeng and Emmanuel Gyamfi were having a good time on the flanks all evening. Mfegue audacious volley from distance could only give Kotoko fans some urgency in their quest to draw level.

Emmanuel Gyamfi fluffed his chance to make it two for the visitors after superb goalkeeping by Frederick Asare. Kotoko finally got the equalizer on the 37th minute, Steve Mukwala applied the finish after sweet build up play between Augustine Agyapong and George Mfegue

Just before half time Rocky Dwamena received the yellow card for his clumsy tackle on Emmanuel Gyamfi.

Back from recess, Coach Abdul Gazale was forced into a substitution after Mohammed Alhassan replaced Maxwell Agyemang who appeared to have picked up a knock.

Serge Eric Zeze put Kotoko in front on the 46th minute, the Ivorian left Sam Adam’s tumbling with a lovely piece of skill before slotting the ball pass goalkeeper Joseph Addo.

As the game weared on, Elvis Opoku joined the fray. The defensive midfielder quickly announced his presence with a lovely dink from distance but Mohammed Alhassan miraculousl denied the visitors an equaliser with a timely header off the goal line.

Steve Mukwala was presented with an opportunity to make it three for Kotoko but the striker could only find the side net. Frederick Asare once again came to Kotoko’s rescue denying Samson Kobina from close range.

It ended Asante Kotoko 2-1 Aduana Stars.
