Berekum Chelsea recorded an emphatic 3-0 win over Asante Kotoko at the Berekum Golden City Park on match week 23 of the Betpawa premier league.
The home team came into the game poised for action having gone seven matches without a win at home. Kotoko on the other hand were looking to return to winning ways after drawing on match day 25.
The two teams started the game on a brighter note but Berekum Chelsea were slightly ahead in the attacking third. Stephen Amankona playing against his former club look to cause havoc anytime he had thr ball. On the 21st minute he tried to con center referee Maxwell Hanson for a free kick but it didn’t materialize.
Three minutes later Kongoza was presented with an opportunity to score the opener but his free kick came off the human wall. The ensuing corner was brilliantly delt with by Asante Kotoko shot stopper Ibrahim Danland.
Livewire Stephen Anankona was brought down by Augustine Agyapong on the 35th minute, this time round Watara stepped up but once again the human wall came to Kotoko’s rescue.
Goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad appeared jittery at times but presented with a second attempt he pulled up another save on the 38th minute.
Asante Kotoko came close to registering the opener on the 40th minute, Cameroonian George Mfegue picked up the pieces via Richmond Lamptey’s corner but the forward skied his effort.
Back from recess, defender Yaw Danquah intervened by stopping Steve Mukwala’s long darting run with a stupendous sliding tackle on the 46th minute. Three minutes later Kalo Ouattra stunned Kotoko by registering the first goal after connecting on to Collins Ameyaw’s delicious cross.
Coach Abdul Gazale brought on Shadrach Addo for the injured Stephen Mukwala. Kotoko failed to connect and appeared overwhelmed by Berekum Chelsea’s opener. The home team proved for a second midway through the game.
Kalo doubled the lead on the 63rd minute for Berekum Chelsea with a superb header after latching on to Collins Ameyaw’s cross. George Mfegue embarked on a solo run but after going pass goalkeeper Emmanuel Adu the forward missed his foot with the goal at his mercy.
In the 80th minute Berekum Chelsea appeal for a penalty was turned down by center man Referee Samuel Hanson after Sheriff Mohammed slightly body checked Stephen Amankona.
The home side put the game beyond the reach of their opponents by scoring the third goal on the 85 minute, substitute Patrick Ansu made it three after benefitting from a calamitous goalkeeping by Ibrahim Danlad.
It ended Berekum Chelsea 3-0 Asante Kotoko.
