Defending champions Asante Kotoko were stunned by Medeama at home in game which saw the away side produce great counter attacking football.
Kotoko started on a brighter note but had no clear goal scoring opportunities coming their way. Against the run play Jonathan Sowah put Medeama in front in the 15th minute after some good play by winger Derrick Fudjour.
In the 22nd minute Richmond Lamptey was presented with an opportunity to score the equaliser but the player skied his effort.
Medeama looked dangerous on the counter, Derrick Fudjour and good old Theophilus Anobaah kept the laterals of Kotoko under immense pressure.
In the second half, Jonathan Sowah fired in a scissor kick which was brilliantly stopped by goalkeeper Frederick Asare.
Medeama missed a chance to make it two in the 70th minute. Defender Vincent Atingah made no mistake from the spot after Appau brought down Derrick Fudjour down in the 76th minute.
